Friday night: Boo Bash at The Clayton Center
Friday, October 23 is Boo Bash night, the family-friendly early Halloween celebration at The Clayton Center, a few blocks from the festival grounds. It is the gentlest way to ease into Halloween week: costumes, candy, and downtown Clayton's small-town energy without the October 31 crowd. Pair it with an early pass through the festival midway and food trucks, and you have a full evening out that is an easy 10-minute drive from Portofino.
Saturday: the festival's big day or the fair's final weekend
Saturday, October 24 is the marquee day of the 75th Clayton Harvest Festival: the classic car show (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), the tractor show, the Harley-Davidson ride-in, and the National Anthem with a flyover, all layered on top of the midway and vendor fair. Admission and parking are free. Use the free shuttle from The Church at Clayton Crossings at 11407 Clayton Boulevard, running 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and skip the Main Street parking hunt entirely. If you would rather take the big trip this weekend, the NC State Fair at 1025 Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh runs through Sunday, October 25, with extended hours until 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. From the Portofino gate it is a straight shot up US 70 and I-40, roughly 35 to 40 minutes on a normal day. Sunday: the Latin American Festival
Sunday, October 25 brings the Latin American Festival at Town Square, running roughly noon to 5 p.m., with music, food, and culture from across Latin America closing out the festival's 75th edition. It is a slower, warmer finale than the Saturday rush, which makes it a good choice for families who want one more festival pass without the crowds.
